New York Post Online Edition: postopinionImagine how a "trained professional" must feel when a **star** trumps ones career.
CA is a funny place. Upon a visit there several years ago, I found myself aching for real news during the evening celebrity fest that purports to be the news.
How can anyone who has been a news freak even visit for more than
one standard news cycle? Talk about withdrawal syndrome!
Maybe, though, the west coasters are right....frivolity matters!
There was a sense of power in the first few pages. The author had a story to tell, and the spell had begun.
Being drawn into the past, introduced to characters with a capital "C", and feeling a sense of direction early....that happens rarely in most books I read.
Maybe my love of dogs, and the knowledge that these cohabitors of life really have a soul, pulled my heart. The little experience I have with horses, and my bad city boy riding, gave me little to bind me to the tale. Yet, I was engaged right from the start. And yes, I realize the story is more about the people than the horse.
Having yet to see the movie, I have been getting the reviews of friends and associates. They are either asking to borrow my one copy, or have bought their own. These actions tell a tale. The movie has such resonance that book sales are driven.
Great storytelling in book and film, what could be better?
